§ 5-150. Impoundment generally; holding period.
(a)
The animal protection police officer supervisor or other officer who finds a dog without the tags required by this chapter, or a dog running at large in violation of section 5-29(6), or any other animal in violation of the provisions of this chapter shall impound such animal in the pound.
(b)
Except as otherwise provided, all impounded animals shall be kept for a period of not less than five days. Such period shall commence on the day immediately following the day the animal is initially confined in the facility.
(c)
Impounded animals may be released at any time and the five-day holding period shall not apply to:
(1)
Any impounded animal claimed by its rightful owner;
(2)
Any impounded animal, if the animal's rightful owner has surrendered all property rights in such animal and has read and signed a statement as required by section 5-156.
